Louise Block

ceramics

Ceramic sculptures by Louise Block, designed and made in Arizona, USA and Bristol, UK.

Many of my sculptures do not have a top or bottom in the conventional sense of the word. So they can be "stood up" in a variety of ways.

These hand coiled ceramic sculptures are burnished, sometimes using terra sigillata.  A variety of clays are used.  After a low bisque in an electric kiln, the work is often fired in sawdust.

Additionally, I enjoy providing quality clay workshops for people of all ages. I work in nurseries, schools, with community groups, at birthday parties, mixed age community groups, and with elderly people. The workshops are about encouraging imagination by giving skills which enable everyone to pursue their ideas. I provide the tools and materials, and can also fire the work. Classes are designed to suit the needs of the group. I also offer workshops with recycled materials of various kinds.

Past workshops include the WOMAD festival, workshops at Bristol Museum, the Architecture Centre, Bristol Green Week, UWE Nursery, Felix Road Adventure Playground, together with numerous "art weeks" in schools. I have a current DBS check, and insurance coverage.
